A Name space is similar to mount point.
Open DFS management and on the right hand side of this console you could see new Namespace, click on that.
Here we need to mention what server the initial Namspace will reside.
Browse to that server and click on NEXT.
Enter the name for the Namespace and click on NEXT.
(Here what is going to do is it will create a name shared folder first)
Here it is going to build a folder as per the name specified.
Here I’m selecting Enable windows server 2008 mode because we are building on brand new network.
And click NEXT
FYI, you can install DFS on windows server 2003 and it is also included in R2 version of windows server 2003
Here is the quick review of what the Namespace setting are.
Just click NEXT.
It is going to take some time for the wizard to complete.
NameSpace is being created successfully.
In the error tab you can check if there is any error occurred dring configuration.
We are done with creating namespace.
If you want to add additional servers to Name space click on the Name space and on the right hand side of the console you could see Add Name space server, Click the link.
Here we will be creating a folder on the other server which going to be share data with this server.
Note: Even on that server the DFS and file server roles should be installed and configured.
Select the server using browse tab and click on OK.
The two servers is going to talk together for little while. once it is done we can see another server added to the namespace.
Here folders are created in 2 different servers through the Namespace. Both folders on different server will be having same name and will be treated as single folder.
In our scenario the folder name is PODLibrary<!– /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:”"; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-fareast-font-family:”Times New Roman”;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} –>
